My qualifications are: Assessor-Recorder Joaquín Torres brings values of hard work, a focus on people, and expanding opportunity to a department that provides billions of dollars in funding for critical services ranging from our schools, parks and playgrounds, to economic relief, sanitation, emergency services and public health programs.
The grandson of Mexican immigrants, Joaquín was inspired to pursue a career in public service by role models who exemplified a belief that good government listens closely to the people it serves and designs policies and programs that better their lives.
Joaquín leads an organization of nearly 200 committed professionals to efficiently and fairly identify and assess all taxable property in the City and County of San Francisco. Joaquín’s work ensures accessible, timely, and attentive customer service for all San Franciscans who interact with the Assessor’s Office.
Joaquín’s commitment to San Francisco’s communities reaches beyond his role as Assessor-Recorder in his volunteer efforts focused on racial equity and inclusion in the arts, community-centered urban planning and greater investment in affordable and public housing.
